Introduction
To understand why codes and devices must be paired, it is important to recognize that they represent separate and unique entities. Each entity serves its own purpose, can be created or deleted independently, and offers distinct functionalities.
Codes – Regulating Access to the Platform
- Each code has a unique URL that provides access to the platform.
- Codes can have individual settings and configurations, including:
- Paired / Unpaired
- Activated / Deactivated
- PIN protected / Without PIN
- Related departments
- Each code maintains a history of received notifications, which disappear when unpaired (but can also be deleted manually).
For more details, read the article Code Details View (article).
Devices – Digital Twins Storing Information and Functionalities
- One Device (Digital Twin) represents one physical device in the real world.
- It stores important data such as user manuals, service history, and customer interactions.
- Devices provide functionalities for efficient device lifecycle management.
For more details, read the article Device Details View (article).
Why Pairing Matters
Pairing codes with devices provides flexibility for different deployment strategies:
- Independent Management: Codes and devices can be created and deleted independently.
- Department Assignments: Codes and devices can be assigned to different departments (For more details, read the article Department Isolation (article)).
- Flexible Rollout: QR code stickers can be produced in advance and paired with devices later, making on-site deployment easier.
- Code Users Require a Paired Code: If a device is not paired to a code, code users cannot access it. Code users need to scan a QR code to interact with the device.
Example Scenario
A company pre-produces QR code stickers. When service employees visit customers, they:
- Attach a QR sticker to a physical device.
- Use the mobile application to create a new Digital Twin.
- Pair the sticker's code with the newly created device.
How to Pair a Code with a Device
Codes and devices can be paired in multiple ways:
In the Back Office Application
Starting with the Code:
- Select CODES from the side menu.
- Choose an unpaired code (Tip: Use filters). If no code exists, create a new one.
- In the Code Details View, navigate to the Device section and click +PAIR WITH DEVICE (picture).
- Select an existing, unpaired device from the list.
- ✅ Done!
Starting with the Device:
- Select DEVICES from the side menu.
- Choose an unpaired device (Tip: Use filters). If no device exists, create a new one.
- In the Device Details View, navigate to the Codes tab and click +PAIR WITH CODE (picture).
- Select an existing, unpaired code from the list.
- ✅ Done!
In the Mobile Application
Starting with the Code:
- Log into the Mobile Application.
- Scan the QR code of an unpaired code. A message "Code not paired" will be displayed.
- Click PAIR (picture).
- Select Existing Device → Click the arrow button (picture).
- Choose the device from the list (picture).
- ✅ Done! (picture)
Alternative: Pair with a New Device
- Select New Device → Click the arrow button (picture).
- Choose a template to create the new device.

- Scan the QR code of an unpaired code.
- ✅ Done!
Alternative: Create a New Code and Pair
- Click + (picture).
- A new code will be created and instantly paired with the device.
- ✅ Done!
Pairing with Dynamic Codes
With Dynamic Codes (used via the Mobile Application), new codes and devices are created automatically and linked during the process.
For more details, read the article Dynamic Codes (article).
What Happens After Pairing?
- The code inherits the departments of the paired device (For more details, read the article Department Isolation (article)).
- Users scanning the QR code gain direct access to the device's content.
How to Unpair a Code and a Device
Codes and devices can be unpaired at any time.
In the Back Office Application
Starting with the Code:
- Select CODES from the side menu.
- Choose a paired code.
- In the Code Details View, click UNPAIR (picture).
- Confirm your action (picture).
- ✅ Done!

Good to Know
- Pairing a code and device enables full access to digital twin functionalities for code users.
- Customer Login Users can also access devices without a code by logging into the application.
- Codes inherit departments from their paired devices.
- Unpairing removes access but does not delete the code or device.
- QR codes can be scanned at any time to verify pairing status.
